JOB TITLE: Veterinarian

LOCATION: Northern Territory | Australia
TYPE OF WORK: 100% Small Animal
HOURS: Full Time
AFTER HOURS: Less than 1 night per week
SALARY: Negotiable
A great opportunity is available for a new or recent graduate to join a team of 4 vets at a well-equipped, small animal practice in Darwin. The start date is flexible (between mid 2017 and early 2018)

This is a busy practice and vets have the opportunity to treat a range of cases, including tropical diseases, orthopaedics, and fascinating wildlife, with support from those who have seen it all before. This position will give you the chance to learn and test your diagnostic and surgical skills (being so far from specialists allows the luxury of handling complicated cases). Yet, should the need really arise, patients can still be popped on a plane and sent to the experts.

The clinic is computerised and has the latest equipment and technology, allowing vets to practice top-quality medicine. Equipment includes digital x-ray and ultrasound, in-house laboratory and anaesthetic monitoring equipment. The staff operate very much as a team, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in this great city and a chance to enjoy the great climate (temperatures rarely exceed 33 degrees, despite Darwin’s reputation). Darwin’s young population, capital city facilities, tropical ambiance and well-known friendliness make it a difficult place to beat. There is also the opportunity to explore some of Australia’s most beautiful outback, whether bush-walking, camping, fishing, horse riding, scuba diving etc.

Feedback from a recent graduate currently working with this group:
Everything is going really well here so far with the new graduate program. I have only been to one CPD event so far and really enjoyed it. The first CPD was focused on Parasitology and Surgical workshop which was good to refine my surgical skills. The practice I am at offers plenty of support as well as letting me do a lot by myself. The team I work with is great, and there are two other new graduates at the clinic so we can help each other out. The good thing about the practice is that you don’t feel like you are working for a big company, the practice is very popular with the locals and has a good name in the area. They offer new graduates plenty of holidays, CPD allowance and special benefits like discounted gym memberships, bike scheme and plenty of shopping discounts.  They also pay for your first year of membership to the RCVS and send new graduates to the BSAVA Congress every year. I couldn’t have imagined a better first job.
